97X Green Room

In order to help you be the cool music geek among your friends, we've compiled a list of "behind the scenes" information about the 97X Green Room: Volume 1 CD. Study up, you might be tested on this material.

  • Why Is The Guitar On Meant To Live So Low?
Because it broke. During Switchfoot's performance the cord came loose so the only guitar audio you can hear is from the voice mic. That's why it seems like the vocals are much louder than the guitar.

  • When Was The Authority Zero Green Room?
The Authority Zero song is not from a true 97X Green Room. The band stopped by in late 2002, which happened to be when our studio was under renovation. So they performed in our temporary studio, which was the size of a small closet. As these photos show, it was a very intimate setting. Although not a real 97X Green Room, we thought it sounded awesome so we put it on the disc. 'Cause we're like that.

  • I Bet You Didn't Know...
Here's a big secret that very few people (including most of the 97X staff) know. The Jimmy Eat World and Three Days Grace songs are not the actual recordings from the 97X Green Room. Both songs were performed for 97X in Green Rooms, but the bands wanted to use different versions. So although you heard the songs in the 97X Green Room, you've never heard these songs.

  • I Love The Charity!
So do we, but if you look closely you'll notice that our fearless leader (Shark) neglected to use spell check and misspelled their name not once, not twice, but three times! The correct spelling is "Audubon" not "Audobon". We believe that these three spellings are the only misspellings on the whole disc, but we might be wrong. Please email us and tell us if you found a misspelling on the disc.

  • Hey, They Aren't In The Band Anymore.
Yep, two recordings on the 97X Green Room CD are performed with members that are no longer with their respective band. The first is Saliva, whose guitarist, Chris Dabaldo left the band in early 2005 stating the band is "not a unit anymore". The second is Chevelle, who split with their little brother and bassist Joe Loeffler. You can hear Joe doing back up vocals and bass on "Vitamin R." At least we got two standout tracks from these guys before they left!

  • So There's a Hidden Track?
Time to let you in on the title and artist of the hidden track. As most of you have already guessed, it's Claudio from Coheed & Cambria performing "A Favor House Atlantic" from his acoustic performance at the 97X Next Big Thing 4. You won't find any mention of the song anywhere on the CD jacket, but if you look real close, you'll find a photo of Claudio on the NBT4 stage in the photo montage. We thought it was just a really cool track that "fit" with the idea of the disc.

  • Who Didn't Make The Cut?
Over the past four years more than 11 bands have performed in the 97X Green Room, so some tracks that didn't make the cut. One such song is Yellowcard's "Ocean Avenue", which was on the original track listing until about a month prior to production. Instead, we went with another track that felt just a little "better." No, we're not telling which song. We don't want to start some "East Coast/West Coast" war.

  • If You Look Real Close...
At the inside photo of the jacket you'll notice writing on the back of the chairs in the Green Room. Only listeners who have actually been in a 97X Green Room know that we have each band sign a chair after their performance. We've now got 12 autographed chairs from bands like Jimmy Eat World, Lost Prophets, Yellowcard and Taking Back Sunday. Recently we've run out of chairs so bands have resorted to signing the seats. So, if you're ever in the 97X Green Room, check the seat you're sitting in - it might just be signed by your favorite band!
