An American singer/songwriter known for pairing moody soul-pop with magnetic storytelling, David Kushner found mainstream favor in 2022 when his debut single, "Miserable Man," reached the Top 20 in multiple countries. He fared even better with 2023's poignant ballad "Daylight," which topped several international charts. Kushner landed another global hit in early 2024 with "Skin and Bones" from his debut album, The Dichotomy.
Raised in the Chicago suburbs, Kushner pursued music seriously after graduating high school. Upon relocating to Los Angeles, the self-taught musician and social media influencer honed his songwriting skills, and in 2022 he released "Miserable Man." Earnest, sad, and soulful, the song went viral, earning Kushner a substantial international audience and a record deal with Virgin. Later that year, the song appeared on his debut EP, Footprints I Found, which also included the streaming hits "Burn" and "Mr. Forgettable." Co-written with Hayden Robert Hubers, Jeremy Fedryk, and Josh Bruce Williams, Kushner kicked off 2023 with the dulcet "Daylight," which elicited comparisons to Hozier and Bon Iver, and went on to become his second global hit, reaching 33 on the Billboard 100. Another single, "Dead Man," followed later that year, but it was Kushner's 2024 song, "Skin and Bones," that became his next charting hit, reaching 70 in the U.S. and faring even better throughout much of Europe. Along with the fiery ballad "Humankind," all three songs were included on his full-length debut, The Dichotomy, released in August 2024. ~ James Christopher Monger
