The Gaslight Anthem "accomplished what we set out to do" with upcoming comeback album

Since announcing their reunion as a "full time band" last year, The Gaslight Anthem has been working on a new album. As for what the upcoming record sounds like, well, you'll just have to hear it for yourself.

"It's always funny walking away from a record, 'cause I don't know what the f*** it is, honestly," drummer Benny Horowitz tells ABC Audio. "If you wanted me to give, like, a Pitchfork review of it and label it towards other things, I don't really know."

One thing Horowitz is sure of, though, is that he and the rest of Gaslight "accomplished what we set out to do" with the album.

"We wanna make a record that sounds like Gaslight, but doesn't sound like any of our other records," Horowitz shares. "And I think that was definitely accomplished. I don't know [that] it sounds like any of our records, and I still think it has — you know, it's very obviously us."

Horowitz adds that he wanted to build on the sonic experimentation of the last Gaslight record, 2014's Get Hurt, while also keeping true to who he and his bandmates are as people nearly 20 years after first getting together.

"There's no point in making '59 Sound Part 2 once you're in your 40s," Horowitz says. "It's just not gonna work. So you gotta be true to yourself and comfortable with who you are and what you wanna be, and I think we did a pretty good job with that."

While you wait for the new Gaslight Anthem, you can catch the band on tour starting May 1 in Houston, Texas.
