Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan has revealed that his wife, Jen, has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The news arrives in a Twitter thread Maynard posted Thursday in celebration of Jen's birthday. According to Keenan, Jen had felt a lump last November, and was diagnosed on Christmas Eve.
"She didn't collapse into a pile of self pity," Maynard writes. "She didn't launch into an entitlement rage. She didn't act out in any self destructive manner. Instead she asked the right questions, listened to her doctors, made a plan, and stuck to it. And when there were things she couldn't do on her own, she asked for help."
That included cutting off her own hair ahead of chemotherapy, and asking a family friend to make her a matching wig.
"Then she went to work," Maynard says. "No one was the wiser. She's successfully navigated both the chemo and the surgery, and now begins the radiation. And all without whining or b****ing."
"She is my rock," he adds. "She is my muse. She is my ALL."
Keenan ends the thread by imploring that everyone "Be like Jen."
"Happy Birthday, My Love," he concludes. "Cheers to this one and many more."
